Contemporary full calf, gilt decorated borders on covers, gilt dentelles on inner edges, spine richly gilt and with red title label, slightly rubbed and front hinges starting. Light stain to outer margins. Giovanni Bernardo De Rossi (1742-1831), was an Italian Christian Hebraist who in 1769 became professor of Oriental languages at the University of Parma. He studied the early history of Hebrew printing and compiled "Dizionario Storico degli Autori Ebrei e delle Loro Opere" at Parma 1802. This is an early, beautiful work by him printed by Giambattista Bodoni, the famous Italian engraver and typographer.
