Some minor foxing. Comte de Volney (1757-1820), a French historian and philosopher, got interested in ancient languages as a student. In 1783 he travelled to Egypt and the Near East, and while staying at a monastery on mount Lebanon he learned Arabic. Included in 'Oeuvres de C.F. Volney. tome viii'. De Sacy, Catalogue de Bibl. ii, 2605 (first edition 1820).
