An amusing work about Yokohama Pidgin. The merchants at this time didn't learn Japanese but managed to get by with a few simple phrases that eventually evolved into what was called the Yokohama Pidgin. Attributed to Colonel Hoffman Atkinson (1839-1901), an American living in Japan involved in the tea business. See Wenkstern, II, pp 74, 76 & 462.
