Hakama is a type of traditional Japanese clothing for both men and women. For women, it is used for less formal occasions. Kaigai Tennen (1860 - ?), a traditional Japanese style artist who gradually became interested in design. He compiled several works with designs for kimonos. Curiously one with the same title as this work "Tennen Hyakkaku", a three volume work, was published in 1900. This work published two years earlier is very rare, perhaps his first work of this kind. Beautiful printed designs sparsely decorated with seasonal flowers and plants, cranes, geometric patterns etc. Several are highlighted with silver. The block carver was Wada Sutematsu and the printer was Tadokor› Rikimatsu.
