Frederika Afanasyevna von Freygang (1790-1863) was born in Vienna and in 1808 married Wilhelm von Freygang, Russian diplomat and linguist. This work contains Frederika's letters to a friend in St. Petersburg written during her journey to Moscow, Caucasia and Georgia. Followed by Wilhelm von Freygang's account of his journey from Georgia to Tauris in Persia in 1812 and an Appendix with an abridgement of the history of Persia from the time of Nadir-Schack.
