Internally, back hinge cracked and repaired but back free endpaper removed; front hinge cracked; author's gift inscription on verso of front free endpaper - no signature, but 'with the author's best wishes'; title page and last page browned; several improvements and alterations - words and whole lines - made by author in ink throughout (handwriting matches his inscription); a good and extremely interesting copy, as his improvements are likely to be unique amongst published copies. (Born in June 1840, the author studied at Merton College, Oxford and became vicar of Twigworth; he wrote several volumes of poetry and died in June 1928.)
