Description: Clementi & Co./ Preston, 1833. Used - Acceptable. Fair hardback in full calf . Two books bound together. First title continues: 'Set for the organ, piano forte, voice, German flute, or guitar.' Not dated, but inscribed 1833, so presumably about that date. Bound in full calf with gilt and blind tooling on boards; all page edges gilt. Lacks spine backstrip, leaving boards detached, but rest of the book is securely bound. 'A new edition of the hymns...' contains four books as follows: frontis & title page, relates to Book 1 but this is unstated; erasure at bottom of title page removing price; index at page 1. Second frontis & title page following p.40; relates to Book 2 but someone, erroneously, has handwritten 1; index at page 41. Third frontis & title page for Book 3 following p. 71 with index at page 72. Fourth frontis & title page for Book 4 following p. 108; no index. Text of hymns ends at page 130, followed by unnumbered page 'A prayer for the use of the Magdalen Chapel.' Bound with Drummond & Miller's 'The psalms of David...': index at page 1; continues to page 117; page 118 blank followed by an appendix 119-142 and an addenda 1-4.
