Description: London, W. Strange , 1840. Used - Good. Good hardbacks in half-leather First edition. 2 volumes, in tan half leather with marbled boards; red leather labels on spine with gilt type. Leather is very worn & rubbed with 1cm loss to top of spine of vol.I and fractional loss at top of vol.II. Spine of V.II now appears lighter than vol.I. Marbled paper on boards scuffed & worn; fore-edges originally speckled pink, now darkened & marked on top fore-edge. Owner's name on front paste down of both volumes. Both volumes bound without half-title pages, but with extra illustrated title page in vol.I. Hinges cracked & repaired, rather too enthusiastically in vol.I; Foxing present, mainly on early & later leaves; body of text well-preserved. Binding tight. 7 full-page portraits in vol.I, & 15 full-page portraits in vol.II, as required.
