Description: 0. Hardcover. Photographic Image, (66) PHOTOs: American soldiers/ army bases & sites/ river boats/ Vietnamese kids & young women/ food markets & animals/ Kathy's head shot/+++++  Letters show life in the 1960s for young people living in California, open relationships, guys who get drafted into the army & to Viet Nam-- written by working class kids from east of San Francisco. Richard and friend get drafted (Richard to Vietnam, his friend to Germany). A 3rd man, Danny, is back home and wastes no time putting moves on Richard's girl, Kathy. Their lives get messy-- Kathy's best friend, Anna, has a crush on Danny and jealously watches him drift towards Kathy, (Richard's girlfriend) -- she retaliates by putting moves on Richard in letters she sends him in Vietnam. Kathy, turning 18, faces the prosaic problems of life--school, exams, part-time waitressing, health issues, bad haircuts/hair color, achy feet, and a family drama: watching her mom start drinking after stepdad is found to be running around. This is her mom's 2nd marriage, and Kathy is devastated and threatens to move out if mom splits on stepdad. Meanwhile, her stepdad & mom relocate the family trailer to another site. And Kathy's Richard admits to her that he has a Vietnamese girlfriend-- who Kathy feels sympathy for because Richard will leave her when his tour in Vietnam ends-- Kathy writes of her future hopes when she & Richard will be back together.  Very nice condition. Very Good.
