Amédée de Noé, ”known as Cham (that is, Ham, the son of Noah)- (1819-1879). "It was said that he had ‘an idea a day’ for Le charivari. A good proportion of his thousands of lithographs were gathered into albums. His contributions to the Album du siège (173), in which Daumier was his collaborator, are typical of his work” (Ray, pp. 155-156). Cham's natural taste for drawing made him frequent the workshops of painters Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet and Paul Delaroche. Under their influence, Cham specialized in caricature. He first published an album, Monsieur Lajaunisse, then collaborated with the newspaper Le Charivari, to whom he contributed for thirty-six years. His taste for the absurd make him one of the great humorists of that newspaper. His drawings are recognizable not only by their simple and strong lines, undoubtedly inspired by Honoré Daumier, but also by the spirit and by the legends which accompany them. .
