[8], 572 pp. Twenty-one mounted color plates, all with titles tissue-guards. A few plates with very small corner creases. Original vellum over boards, front cover with decorative gilt lettering and medallion with silhouette portrait, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. Two very small punctures on front cover near silk tie. New silk ties, vellum slightly bowed. Frank Reynolds (1876-1953) studied at Heatherley's School of Art and upon graduation began working for the Illustrated London News. He also produced cartoons for several other journals. He began contributing to Punch in 1906. He also provided the illustrations to later editions of books by Charles Dickens, including David Copperfield (1911), The Pickwick Papers (1912) and The Old Curiosity Shop (1913), during the golden age of lavishly produced gift book. A fellow cartoonist, Cyril Bird, once described Reynolds as "a latter-day" John Leech. Reynolds contributed to several journals including The London Magazine, The Sketch and the The Windsor Magazine. In later years Reynolds concentrated on book illustration, including The Golf Book (1932), Off to the Pictures (1937) and Hamish McDuff (1937). Gimbel B191. .
