Leslie Linder (1924–2010) was more than just a collector. Beginning around 1950, with the support of his sister, Enid, he dedicated himself to studying and collecting Beatrix Potter’s work at a time when little was known about the artist. His pioneering books on Potter’s art and writings remain widely used today, reflecting his enduring scholarship. Drawing from his extensive collection, Linder played a crucial role in promoting Potter’s work both in the UK and internationally, showcasing her diverse talents beyond her beloved storybooks. Perhaps his most remarkable achievement was deciphering Potter’s journal, which had been written in code. When The Journal of Beatrix Potter was finally published in 1966, it offered a fascinating glimpse into the young author's reflections on life and her dry wit, revealing new depths to her character. Margaret ("Daisy") Hammond (1876-1969) was the niece of Beatrix Potter's first governess, who rented the next-door cottage to Castle Cottage together with her friend, Cecily Mills. Potter and she became close friends over the years. .
