Plates with imprint of Lemercier Bernard et Cie. Text moderately foxed, plates with the slightest offsetting from text. Three of the plates are after Louis Lasalle and Achille Devéria. Publisher's? full dark blue morocco, covers decoratively paneled in gilt and blind, smooth spine elaborately decorated in gilt, cream silk-paper endpapers, all edges gilt. Aside from the aforementioned foxing to the text this is a wonderful copy of a very rare book. Rare: OCLC locating just two copies in libraries and institutions worldwide: University of Chicago (IL, US); Bibliotheque Nationale de France. Charles Malo (1790-1871), Paris historian and man of letters. Achille Jacques-Jean-Marie Devéria (1800-1857) was a French painter and lithographer known for his portraits of famous writers and artists.
