Very good. - Large quarto, 13-5/8 inches high by 10 inches wide. Softcover, bound in black & yellow pictorial wraps with illustrations of football players with slogans on their jerseys on the front and back covers. The covers are lightly rubbed & bumped with a crease to the top corner of the rear cover. 80 pages, with profuse black & white illustrations. Very good. Mounted within the periodical is a plastic "Group Material" illustrated shopping bag with descriptive text on the facing page. The shopping bag, courtesy of D & S Ausstellung and Uta Meta Bauer was part of an installation in Hamburg, Germany by the conceptual artists who went under the name "Group Material". The artists participating in the exhibition were made up of Doug Ashford, Julie Ault, Felix Gonzales-Torres, and Karen Ramspacher. Active from 1979 to 1996, "Group Material" operated a gallery space in New York's Lower East Side and hosted such exhibitions as "The People's Choice (Arroz con Mango)" in 1981 which consisted of over a hundred items loaned by residents. The group later moved to 26th Street in Manhattan. Among the articles in this issue are "Angels on Your Shoulders: A Conversation with Tim Miller about Art and Activism" by Linda Frye Burnham. Tim Miller was a performance artist and gay activist with Act Up. "Red Emma Returns" by William E. Weeks. "Red Emma Returns" was a street performance named after the labor organizer Emma Goldman. Active in the 1930s, Goldman belonged to the communist party and was often referred to as "Red Emma". Very good .
