Strongheart, a play about a native American, was first produced at the Hudson Theatre in New York City on January 30, 1905. The American playwright, screenwriter, and silent film director William C. deMille (1878-1955) was the elder brother of the famous movie director Cecil B. DeMille and father of the American dancer and choreographer Agnes de Mille. He became a successful Broadway playwright in 1905 prior to following his younger brother to Hollywood. His first play, "Strongheart", set in the early 20th Century, follows a young native American student Soangataha who, while attending Columbia University, becomes revered as a football player. Despite his success, he faces prejudice when he falls in love with Dorothy, a young white woman. The play was made into a movie titled "Braveheart" (not to be confused with Mel Gibson's Scottish one) produced by his brother in 1925. Good .
