Description: August 2005. 2005. August 2005. 2005. Fine. - An original 5-1/2 inch high by 5-1/2 inch wide sepia toned photograph on 7-1/2 inch high by 7-1/2 inch wide matte finish photographic paper. The image portrays Fransisco Rivera Ordonez with his hands clasped behind his back at the front of a line which includes 3 other bullfighters. The matadors are standing near a wall in a corridor as horses with riders are faintly perceived in a courtyard in the background. Dated "Aug. 2005", titled "Francisco Rivera Ordonez", numbered "34/98", and signed in full by the photographer Gerardo Somoza on the verso. Attractively mounted in a 9-1/2 inch high by 9-1/2 inch wide creamy white mat. Fine. The Duke of Montoro, Francisco de Asis Rivera Ordonez (born 1974) is descended from a long line of Spanish bullfighters. He was awarded the Fine Arts medal by the Culture Ministry of Spain in 2009 which resulted in controversy and outcry from other bullfighters who considered his award due more to glitz and family pedigree rather than his skill in the ring. Ordonez was the subject of Edward Levine's book "Death and the Sun: A Matador's Season in the Heart of Spain" and Catherine Tosko's film "The Bull and The Ban". Fine .
