Softcover, bound in pictorial black-and-white wrappers. The covers are soiled and the spine darkened. 55 pages plus the colophon, illustrated with 44 full-page black-and-white photographic illustrations. Very good. "These photographs [were] originally made for the Paris Exposition of 1900 as part of an exhibition demonstrating contemporary life of the American Negro." The Hampton Institute, founded by Samuel Chapman Armstrong in 1868, was an experimental educational institution dedicated to the education of young black and American Indian students. Very good .
