Hardcover, bound in tan leather with gilt rules on the spine. The covers are heavily rubbed & scuffed and the head & tail of the spine are chipped. The leather is splitting along the joints and the front cover is nearly detached. vi, vii, [i] & 422 pages, with an extra engraved title page illustrated with an engraving of the University of Pennsylvania, and 15 full-page plates. The hinges are cracked and there is a small piece out from the bottom of the front endpaper. There is some occasional scattered foxing, soiling and light dampstaining throughout. An early owner's name is penned at the top of the engraved title page. Good. Second edition, with additions. Volume one only of a two volume set, complete in itself. Fair .
