The art critic and author Alfred Werner (1911-1979) came to the United States in 1940 after being imprisoned at Dachau. He wrote on European intellectual matters and authored several biographies of artists including Chagall, Modigliani, Pascin, Max Weber, Munch, and others. Fine .
