Description: Bound Brook, New Jersey, September 27, 1954. 1954. - Over 100 words penned on 11 inch high by 8-1/2 inch wide "Rutgers University / The State University of New Jersey / College of Arts and Sciences / English Department" stationery with his personal address stamped in blue at the top right of the page. John Ciardi thanks the literary critic and science fiction author Basil Davenport for the signed copy of a book: "I've had a fine time being told ghostly tales. Thanks for the book and for the inscription." He goes on to proclaim that "The inscription is certainly enough to make this a collector's item in my happy estimation.." but as he read the book he discovered 25 pages missing from his copy which might make it even more unusual. He suggests that Davenport "as author, might want to have somebody check copies to make sure my volume's error is not general." Signed "John". Folded for mailing with some diagonal offsetting to the top left corner. Very good.
