Description: 1902. 1902. - An 8-1/4 inch high by 6-1/4 inch wide armorial bookplate illustrated with a zinc etching designed by Mortimer Delano de Lannoy. A central coat of arms with 2 unicorns flanking a shield topped with a unicorn's head protruding from a crown with banners and escutcheons along the top. The owner's genealogy is etched within decorative banners on both sides, with crossed swords pictured at the bottom of each banner. A decorative black frame surrounds the central image with a list of cities and regions in France & Belgium between 3 shields. Two more escutcheons in the form of shields are pictured at the bottom framing a banner within which is etched "Bonnes Nouvelles / Ex-Libris 1902 / Delano de Lannoy". Several of the shields are decorated with crowned lions. Fine.
Mortimer Delano de Lannoy (1869-1920) held the title of "Poursuivant-of-Arms". With Reginald Harvey Arnold, he was the author of "Simplex Munditiis, Gentlemen", Part 1: "Dress for Gentlemen" by Delano, and Part 2: "Essential Customs for Gentlemen" by R.H. Arnold (published in 1891). Fine .
