Hardcover, bound in brown, gold and black pictorial cloth featuring a native South American fanning the flames of what appears to be a statue of the Inca sun god. Titled in gilt and brown on the pictorial spine. The binding is further enhanced with maps of South America on the pastedowns & endpapers. The lightly soiled covers are very slightly cocked with minor wear to the corners and head & tail of the spine. xxv, [1] & pages [13]-510 and 2-pages of ads, with a color chromolithographic frontispiece ("At the foot of the Andes") and profuse black & white textual illustrations. There are paper remnants adhering to the rear pastedown map. The text block is cracked at the verso of the frontispiece. There is foxing and staining to the verso of the chromolithographic frontispiece and some occasional light soiling. Very good. Very good .
