First edition. The book is made up of a series of letters from Lydius to the Ghent Jesuit Andrea Pevernagio.
Johannes Lydius, the son of the theologian Martinus Lydius, was born in Frankfurt in 1577. He was the brother of the vehement opponent of the Remonstrants Balthasar Lydius. He studied theology in Leiden and was an associate of Hugo Grotius, Gerardus Vossius and Josephus Justus Scaliger. He served briefly as a pastor in Aarlanderveen but soon left for Oudewater. Lydius, like his brother Balthasar, was zealously opposed to the Remonstrants and lost his contacts with his Arminian friends. Lydius edited "De vitis pontificum Romanorum" by Robert Barnes and John Bale as well as the works of Nicolas De Clamanges. He died in Oudewater on January 20, 1643.
The text is in Latin.
