Near the beginning of the Spanish Civil War, the Nationalist Colonel José Moscardo Ituarte, the military governor of the Toledo Province, held the Alcazar against overwhelming Republican forces during the Siege of the Alcazar. With a poorly armed group of fighters, he held out for General Francisco Franco's Nationalist forces for 70 days from 22 July to 27 September 1936. The cadets were loyal to the Francoist army. This short work chronicles the siege of the Alcazar in Toledo by Republican forces. The work is pro-Nationalist, with Falangist and Carlist songs reprinted in its pages.
Robert Brasillach (1909-1945) was a fascist and an antisemite. He was executed after the war for being a collaborator. His biographer Alice Kaplan called him the "James Dean of French fascism". Very good .
