Hardcover, bound in pictorial dark green cloth with an image of Native Africans stamped on the front cover and titled in gilt with a gilt device on the spine. The covers are rubbed and stained with wear to the corners and head & tail of the spine. xi, [3] & (1) - 381 pages, illustrated with a frontispiece, 20 plates with tissue guards & 3 maps including a folding map of "The Nile Slave District". Pages 33-48 are misbound after page 64, apparently as published. The hinges are cracked and the text block is cracked near the front with the first signature (group of pages) detached but present. The front edge of the book and bottom of the pages are dampstained. Good working copy.
