The book is housed in a gray slipcase with decorations in blind on both sides. Unpaginated, profusely illustrated in color and black and white with McDermott's photographs and with black & white elephant images by Edward Gorey. Near fine.

First edition. Of a total edition of 126 copies this copy is number 9 of 100 and is signed by both John Updike and Kevin McDermott.

Laid in at the front, as issued, is an original signed photograph titled "Ogdred! Place". The photograph features Edward Gorey's black Volkswagen Golf with its Ogdred license plate parked in front of his Elephant House. The photograph is numbered 9/100 on the verso and signed by Kevin McDermott with the date 2003.

The elephant images that appear throughout the book were created by Gorey in 1985; the sketches and images on the endpapers were created by Gorey in 1995. Fine .
