Description: New York: Charles Scribner, 1851. 1851. - Octavo, 6-7/8 inches high by 4-7/8 inches wide. Brown cloth titled and decorated in gilt on the spine with decorations in blind on the covers. The book is slightly cocked. The covers are rubbed and stained with wear to the corners and head and tail of the spine. 279 pages, illustrated with a lithographic frontispiece and an additional pictorial title page, signed "Howland". Additionally illustrated with a title vignette, a second title vignette preceding the second story, signed "Howland", a third vignette title followed by a fourth title. Also with 4 textual wood engravings. The endpapers and pastedowns are stained and foxed. A few signatures (group of pages) are lightly pulled and there is scattered foxing throughout and a short tear to the front margin of page 259. Good.

Titled "Stories for Summer Days and Winter Nights" at the foot of the spine. Another book with that title, containing different stories, was published and written by Eliza Leslie in 1853.

This is a different book than one published in 1830, also attributed to Sedgwick, entitled "The Young Emigrants: A tale designed for young persons". The contents of this 1851 Scribner publication contains the following stories: "The Young Emigrants", "Madelaine Tube and Her Blind Brother; A Christmas Story for Young People", "The Boy and the Book, or Hans Gensfleisch, the Little Printer", and "The Crystal Palace. A Story for Boys and Girls". Good .
