The Dutch engineer J. Constant van Rijn settled in Woodstock, New York as a refugee from WWII. He used a chicken coop as his office in 1947 and a barn for engineering work. Having incorporated the Rotron Manufacturing Company in 1949, by 1961 Van Rijn was employing many Woodstock artists to work in his new facility and commissioned their work for the company's lobby and offices.
From 1947 on, Rotron provided reliable fans and blowers to the military and aerospace industries, developing a variety of innovative fans and air-movers. The company's products, used on aircraft and defense platforms worldwide, were designed to withstand shock, vibration, humidity, salt from sea-based operations, extreme temperatures, water and electromagnetic interference.
