Description: New York and London: The Studio Publications, (1949). (1949). INSCRIBED TO FRIDOLF JOHNSON BY HIS WIFE, THE AUTHOR, HEIDI LENSSEN - Octavo, 9-1/4 inches high by 6-3/8 inches wide. Black cloth titled in gilt on the spine, in a pictorial black & white dust wrapper. The corners and head & tail of the book's spine are rubbed. The dust jacket is foxed with a few chips and tears to the edges and a small hole to the jacket's back panel. 64 pages, with textual illustrations and 48 pages of photographs. There is soiling along the bottom of one page. Very good.

First edition.

Inscribed in blue ink on the half title by Heidi Lenssen to her husband Fridolf Johnson, and signed by her in purple. "To Fridolf / the author of 'The Educated Hand' and owner of beautiful Hands with my sincerest hope for a happy future - together! Love Heidi".

An illustrator and artist as well as a fine pressman Fridolf Johnson was an editor of American Artist Magazine until his retirement in the 1970's. As a graphic artist, he designed title panels for Hollywood movies and art & typography for advertising as well as dust jacket illustrations. He wrote and illustrated his own children's books in addition to other works. He also compiled and edited the Knopf book "Rockwell Kent: An Anthology of His Work".

Fridolf Johnson's wife the artist Heidi Lenssen was a teacher of drawing and painting. She authored several books including "Hands in Nature and Art" and "Art and Anatomy". Very good .
