Based on the 1935 opera by George & Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward, the 1959 American musical film was directed by Otto Preminger. Starring Sidney Poitier and Dorothy Dandridge, with a screenplay by N. Richard Nash, "Porgy and Bess" was Samuel Goldwyn's last project. The subject matter was still considered controversial at the time and the movie drew mixed reviews. It had few showings beyond its initial reserved seats engagements and, nearly unavailable for home video, it is considered one of the more prestigious "lost films". It was chosen for inclusion in the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress in 2011.
"Porgy and Bess" opened on June 24th, this invitation is for the June 23rd preview screening. Very good .
