The Guernsey watercolor painter Paul Jacob Naftel (1817-1891) was the only Guernsey-born professional painter of the 19th Century. A self-taught artist, he went on to teach at Elizabeth College on the island. His paintings of Queen Victoria's visit to Guernsey brought him attention and prints of his paintings of the tour were published in "The Illustrated London News". A prolific artist, he produced over 1,000 works. Naftel moved to London in 1870. His solo exhibition at the gallery of the Fine Art Society was well regarded. Both Rose Maynard Barton and Mildred Anne Butler studied under Naftel. Very good .
