The popular English novelist Sir Max Pemberton JP (1863-1950) was known for his adventure and mystery novels. Pemberton was the editor of the Boys' magazine "Chums" in the early 1890's and edited Cassell's Magazine from 1896 through 1906. His most famous work "The Iron Pirate" about a gas-driven iron-clad pirate ship which terrorized the Atlantic Ocean and could outrace pursuing navy ships served to launch his career. He went on to pen "Captain Black" as well as several collections of mystery stories and historical fiction. Very good .
