A wonderful and playful association.
The American actor Joseph Jefferson (1829-1905) was one of the most famous of the 19th century American comedians and is perhaps best remembered for his portrayal of Rip Van Winkle. Jefferson spent nearly every season from 1880 to 1903 performing in Chicago at McVicker's and subsequently the Powers Theatres. There, he would often perform in "Rip Van Winkle", "The Rivals" and "The Cricket on the Hearth".
The American author, Eugene Field (1850-1895), was best known for his children's poetry and humorous essays. Very good .
