Born in Boston, the American actor and theatre producer Henry E. Dixey (1859-1943) joined the cast at the Howard Athenaeum when only 9 years old, playing the child character Peanuts in Augustin Daly's "Under the Gaslight". He went on to perform in many plays and musicals and was best known for his role in the burlesque musical "Adonis" from 1883 to 1885. Dixie played the title role of a handsome male statue that comes to life and, finding the ways of man unpleasant, chooses to turn back into stone. Dixie went on to perform other roles on stage and in silent movies. He was one of the group of "gentlemen" invited by Robert Emmet Odlum to witness his fatal jump from the Brooklyn Bridge and was the one who timed the jump with his gold stopwatch. Very good .
