The Greek born American artist Lucas Samaras debuted his assemblage boxes in this 1961 exhibition.

Born in Kastoria, Greece in 1936, the American artist Lucas Samaras met Allan Kaprow and George Segal while studying on a scholarship at Rutgers University. He participated in "Happenings" by Kaprow as well as those created by Claes Oldenburg. His self-investigatory "Auto-Interviews" were text works which he created from his own history and biography. In that same vein, his multi-media collages which he called "Photo-Transformations" were often based on self-portraits. Samaras is also known for his assemblage boxes which were featured in several exhibitions. Very good .
