William Babington Maxwell [1866-1938] was a British novelist, the son of novelist Mary Elizabeth Braddon. He was nearly fifty years old at the outbreak of the First World War but was nevertheless accepted as a lieutenant in the Royal Fusiliers and served in France until 1917. In addition to numerous novels, he was the author of two plays: "The Last Man In", a drama produced by the Scottish Repertory Company in 1910, and a farce "The Naked Truth", co-written with George Paston, which opened at Wyndham's Theatre, London in April of the same year. Very good .
