Description: Milano: Nella stamperia di Giuseppe Galeazzi, 1793. 1793. - sc Octavo, 7-1/2 inches high by 5-1/8 inches wide. Disbound, lacking the covers, though the texblock is stitched and complete. 112 pages, illustrated with a full-page frontispiece portrait of King Louis XVI. The frontispiece is detached with a couple of tiny chips to the front edge. A complete bright and internally near fine copy which would be well worth rebinding. One of several editions published throughout Europe within 3 months of de Limon's discourse in Vienna. Geoffroi de Limon was an ardent defender of the monarchy who called for the reinstatement of that institution in France after the French Revolution. King Louis XVI was deposed by the French Revolution in 1789. Seeking to establish a Republic, the Jacobins feared that the antagonistic actions of Prussia and Austria might result in the re-establishment of the monarchy. To forestall such a possibility, the King was tried and executed by guillotine in 1793. Fair .
