American novelist Alice Hegan Rice [1870-1942] wrote more than two dozen books. She is best known for "Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch" which was made into a successful play in 1903 and then adapted for three Hollywood movies, including the 1934 film starring Pauline Lord and W.C. Fields. She was was also known for short stories contributed to magazines. Very good .
