The American mystery fiction author Mary Roberts Rinehart (1876-1958) was often called the American Agatha Christie though her first mystery novel preceded Christie's by over a decade. Considered the inventor of the "Had-I-But-Known" school of mystery novels, Mary Roberts Rinehart is credited with coining the phrase "The butler did it" in her novel "The Door", although she did not use that exact phrase. Very good .
