Jurow writes to Madeline Sherwood, widow of playwright Robert E. Sherwood, on behalf of two talented men who have gone ahead and prepared a book and many songs for a musical of "Waterloo Bridge". They have tried in vain to reach Madeleine Sherwood to ask for permission to develop the play as a musical. "They kept very much to the poignant and romantic concept of your Robert's work. My reaction to the men, to their dedication and their ability was such that I vowed to write to you to intercede for these gifted people. I would go further and say that I would personally be ready to negotiate for the right to produce the musical. First in London and then wherever its success may lead." Sherwood's play premiered on Broadway in 1930. Apparently the musical version discussed here never came to fruition.
Martin Jurow [1911-2004] was a Hollywood producer, known for "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Terms of Endearment" and "The Pink Panther" among other films. Very good .
