The top edges are gilt. The covers are bumped with tiny tears to the cloth along the bottom edges. The rear covers & the front cover of Vol. 1 are lightly rubbed. The heads & tails of the spines are lightly chipped. xviii, [1] leaf & 630 pages plus errata page; and viii, [i], [1] leaf & 547 pages plus addenda & errata page. Sepia-toned illustrations including a frontispiece with a tissue guard in each volume, 44 plates & 3 folding genealogical charts. The rear hinges are cracked. There is a tear to 1 of the folding charts & the margins of some plates are darkened. Despite its flaws, a very good, attractive set.

This life of Sheridan examines his role both in the theater and the politics of his age. Very good .
