Description: Circa [1900]. [1900]. - A cream-colored card, 1-1/2 inches high by 3 inches wide, is signed in black ink "William F. Whiting". The card is slightly soiled with a small black stain & 2 tiny black marks to its edges. Good. Born in Holyoke, Mass. William F. Whiting [1864-1936] served as treasurer and later president of his father's Whiting Paper Company. He became a lifelong friend of Calvin Coolidge when Coolidge was mayor of Northampton, Mass. Whiting became one of the first two "Coolidge Men" to advocate for their friend as a serious presidential candidate. Later he held the position of U.S. Secretary of Commerce from August 28, 1928 to March 4, 1929 in the last months of the Coolidge administration. Good .
