Warwick Deeping [1877-1950] was an English novelist and short-story writer whose best-known novel was "Sorrell and Son" [1925]. After serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps during World War I, Deeping gave up his job as a doctor to become a full-time writer. His early work was dominated by historical romances. His later novels more often dealt with modern life and were critical of many tendencies of twentieth century civilization. His attitude was generally one of passionate individualism, distrustful of both ruling elites and the lower classes who were often presented as a threat to his embattled middle-class protagonists. He was one of the best-selling authors of the 1920s and 1930s. Very good .
