Description: Circa [1940s]. [1940s]. - A slip of cream-colored paper, 2-5/8 inches high by 7 inches wide, is inscribed and signed in black ink: "With all good wishes / John Howard Lawson". There is light offsetting to the right side of the paper where a small piece of tape adheres to the verso. There are 2 very light vertical creases where the paper was once folded. Very good. John Howard Lawson [1894-1977] was an American writer who for several years was head of the Hollywood division of the Communist Party USA. He was also the organization's cultural manager and answered directly to V. J. Jerome, the party's New York-based cultural chief. He was the first president of the Writers Guild of America, West after the Screen Writers Guild split into two regional organizations. During the McCarthy era in the 1950s, Lawson was one of the Hollywood Ten, the first group of American film industry professionals to be blacklisted. Very good .
