The edges of the boards are slightly darkened. The rear panel of the dust jacket is soiled & stained. The jacket spine & folds are darkened and the head & tail of the spine are chipped. There are several short tears to the edges of the dust jacket's panels with a longer tear to the top inner corner of the front panel. 25 pages, [1] leaf & 37 full-page black-and-white reproductions of paintings and drawings by Pavel Tchelitchew, plus a colophon. The gutters are darkened, else the contents are very good. Good.

First edition, with an introduction by Lincoln Kirstein.

Association copy from the library of pioneering modernist designer Allen Porter with a small ink drawing of a box incorporating his name on the front pastedown.

Pavel Tchelitchew [1898-1957] was a Russian-born surrealist painter, set designer and costume designer.
