Title: 33 Rpm Lp Record: "Walter May, Symphony No. 1, in D. Wisconsin State College Symphony Orchestra. Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Walter May, Conductor. May 20, 1962".
Description: Hollywood, California: Location Recording Service, 1962. 1962. - A 33-1/3 rpm long playing record, measuring 10 inches in diameter, with a blue center label printed in gilt. The record is numbered: LRS-1062-692. The LP is a private recording of Dr. Walter May's "Symphony No.1 in D", performed with the Wisconsin State College Orchestra with the composer at the helm. The following movements are recorded on the first side: "I - Lento: Allegro: Grave"; "II. Lento"; "III. (Beginning) Moderato". The conclusion of the work, recorded on the second side consists of: "III. (Concluded) Allegro Scherzando" and "IV. Allegro". This LP, privately sold by the composer at the college is from the original owner's collection and has only been played once or twice and looks clean.

RARE.

The composer Dr. Walter May (1931-2007) graduated from Southwest Missouri State University in 1951. He continued his education as a Fulbright scholar at the Paris Conservatory where he studied music composition with Darius Milhaud and Georges Dandelot. In 1966, he was awarded his Doctor of Music degree in Music Composition by the University of Toronto. He played the viola with the South Dakota Symphony and performed as a church organist as well as choirmaster and conductor. He composed many works throughout his life, including 2 symphonies, 3 viola concertos, and several solo, chamber and choral works. .
