Desire Charnay [1828-1915] was a traveler and writer of considerable fame in the late nineteenth century. He took the first photographs of the Mayan ruins in Mexico in 1859. Later he made many other photographs in Mexico and in Madagascar, Java and Australia. These photographs have been rescued from oblivion by Keith Davis's account of Charnay's life and work. Very good .
