Description: New York: World Health Organization, 1950. 1950. INSCRIBED AND WITH AN AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED BY GEORGE URDANG - Octavo, printed cream-colored wrappers. The edges of the covers are darkened with some light creasing & with a small area of very light soiling to the front cover. Title & 25 pages. There is a small, light stain to the front margin of page 8 and page 9. The contents are very good. Good.

"The present communication was prepared at the invitation of the World Health Organization for publication in its Bulletin, and it is here printed in advance by permission of the Director-General of the WHO."

Inscribed by the author on the title page: "For Dr. Philip George with the compliments of the author / George Urdang / Christmas 1950 / University of Wisconsin / Madison, Wis. U.S.A." Urdang has also noted in ink below the title: "This brochure was distributed at the dedication of the U.S. Pharmacopoeial Convention headquarters at New York on April 12, 1950".

Laid in is a closely written one-page letter penned on a sheet of American Institute of the History of Pharmacy letterhead and signed "George Urdang". The letter, addressed to Dr. George, encloses this copy of the pamphlet and also refers to having previously sent him a copy of Urdang's catalog of "Squibb's Ancient Pharmacy".

George Urdang [1882-1960] was Professor of the History of Pharmacy at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and director of the American Institute of the History of Pharmacy. Good .
