Catalog for an exhibition organized by Japan House and shown at the Japan House Gallery in the summer of 1977. The exhibition was also shown at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC and at Kimbell Art Museum, Fort Worth, Texas. The catalog was translated and adapted by Louise Allison Cort and Monica Bethe.
The Tokugawa Collection of No robes and masks was begun by the first lord of Owari, Yoshino Tokugawa [1600-1650] and was developed by his family, who were the virtual rulers of Japan until 1868. During this period, the collection became the largest private collection of Japanese treasures in the world, the No treasures being of particular importance.
Laid in is a folding, illustrated brochure about the collection. Very good .
