Title: Origine Des Apothicaires de Bruges.
Description: Bruges: Imprimerie de Felix de Pachtere, 1842. 1842. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR - Octavo, green boards backed by a dark green cloth spine, titled in gilt on the front cover with gilt rules on the spine. The covers are rubbed with wear to the corners and edges. The cloth is split along the joints with a piece out at the foot of the spine. 85 pages, plus a [1] page table of contents, illustrated with a title page vignette and 7 textual illustrations, including pictorial head and tail pieces. There is some minor faint foxing. Good.

First edition. Presentation copy, inscribed to "Monsieur Coppieters t Wallant" with "Hommage de l'auteur". Jean-Baptiste-Adolphe-Ghislain Coppieters 't Wallant (1806-1860) was the mayor of Bruges from 1830 to 1841.

The Belgian physician Isaac Joseph De Meyer served as a surgeon and carabinier in the Napoleonic Wars. He took part in the Battles of Landschut, Eckmuhl, Regensburg, Essling, and the Battle of Waterloo, among others. Settling in Bruges, he served as President of the Commission Medicale Procincial and as Vice President of the Royal Academy of Medicine.

Includes a history of the "Epiciers-Droguistes" and of Bruges' Apothicairies with a list of their members from 1488 through 1795 "Liste des Epiciers-Droguistes et Apothicaires, membres de la corporation dite Kruydhalle".
